The installation 'Viewpoint' is based on the phenomenon of National Parks. People go on safaris or walks in 'Nature Parks' to experience real nature, wild life and to admire tourist hot spots. This is fast becoming a more artificial experience, since nature in our times has become a source of economical exploitation, it is destroyed by environmental catastrophes and is disappearing and disintegrating.Filip Vervaet likes to refer to the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich where nature also expresses religious mysticism and nationalistic feelings. Our experience of nature becomes one of threat. This, too, can also come from outer space. In 'Viewpoint' the tourist hotspot is a geometric crater, maybe the result of a meteorite hitting the planet. On route to the Crater, following the wooden track, we can admire a strange representation of some kind of Fir tree and further along one of weird rock formations. A watch-tower allows the visitor a view of the inside of the crater. At the day of the opening 4 alphorn players were giving a alphornmusic concert near the installation.
